Understanding God’s Law

The complete Law Of God demands total perfection from us, and it is impossible for us to fulfill. No mere human has ever fulfilled it, and none ever will. The Mosaic law (i.e. Ten Commandments) is like a railroad track leading to heaven. On which, the locomotive of the holy spirit is pulling the saints coupled by faith leading to Christ. “For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth” (Romans 10:4).

Jesus emphasized the insufficiency of Mosaic law by pointing out that the Pharisees, who were meticulous keepers of the Law Of Moses, were not righteous enough for God.

“For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 5:20)

So what, then, are we to do? If we cannot keep God’s Law, how are we ever going to please Him enough to get into Heaven? God, in His mercy towards us, has given us The Way to do this through Jesus Christ.

“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me” (John 14:6)

If you see yourself as a sinner broken before God (Romans 3:10, Romans 3:23) and you Repent from your sins and Trust that Jesus Christ is Lord, you are saved from the penalty of breaking God’s Law, which all of us surely break.

“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” (Romans 10:9)

Under the Law, there is no forgiveness of sin without the shedding of blood, and Jesus shed His blood for us so that we might live. He paid the penalty of all our sins for us.

“And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.” (Hebrews 9:22)

“But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.” (1 John 1:7)

“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” (Romans 6:23)

In conclusion to understanding God’s Law, Galatians 5:14 makes the entire law very clear in just one verse.

“For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.” (Galatians 5:14)

Romans 7:7-13 – “The Value of the Law”

In this Sermon Pastor Tim, explains the value and purpose of the Mosaic Law and how it’s good at revealing the fact that we’re all sinners and that our sin must be paid for. Tim gives the Good Person Test to see if you have made God’s perfect standard. How will you fare, Guilty or Not Guilty? Paul says in V.7 that “I would not have come to know sin [my sinful condition] except through the Law; for I would not have known about coveting [which is what this sinful condition produces]” Once Paul realized that Coveting was a sin he became a where of the number of times he was actually committing the sin. This is what Tim describes as the law being something wonderful for sinners. Even though it will be a painful blessing to be exposed by the law as a sinner, just like surgeries and biopsies are painful at first, they are better for us in the hand of a skilled physician. And God is the most skilled physician and has the cure (the Gospel) to heal our broken heart. However, we must first realize that we have a disease called Sin before we can be healed. This is why God left His law for us…

Watch the Video series below to help you better understand the importance’s of God’s Mosaic Law. God’s Law prepares the heart of the sinner for the Good News of the gospel. Without this preparatory work, his heart is hardened, and he therefore becomes a candidate for a false conversion. (Psalm 40:7-10)

Sadly, the World is slowly becoming desensitized more and more everyday by the sin of the World. Instead of letting God’s law sensitize us to the sinfulness of sin, we have instead let the World desensitize us and our children so we now tolerate sin. What the Apostle Paul states concerning the Law in Romans 7:13 is “that sin by the commandment might become exceeding sinful.” One of the main problems in our society today, is that Morals are now being taught independent of God’s authority unlike what was taught in the early years of our forefathers. If we continue to teach morals to our Children without the authority of God’s law they will never fully understand their sinful nature and why the sins they commit are wrong.
