SBC – Getting the most from God’s Word – James 1:19

Pastor Tim talks about how we can get the most from God’s Word. The Word of God is our spiritual food and it should be central to the life of every true Christian. Jesus Himself referred to the scriptures as the “Words of Life”. So how can the principles of God’s Word be learned and incorporated into the lives of every generation?

1. Swift to Hear the Word of God
Hearing God’s word gave us new life. The Word is deep and rich and there are so many things yet to be discovered about it. Are you living what you already know?

2. Slow to Speak
Does your tongue fly with lightening speed in your own personal defense when sharing the truth with someone? Tim explains, we need to make sure what we are saying is biblical before saying it and if we don’t know that answer, don’t try to wing it. Paul wrote in 2 Tim 2:15 “Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.”

3. Slow to Wrath
Why do we get angry with the Word of God? Does it reveal something about us?
If we are getting angry with it, then we should ask ourselves why?

Tim answers these topical questions in detail. It’s important to remember the Fruits of the Spirit in Gal 5:22-23 when sharing the Word and Truth w/ others so you can always part with an open door if the person rejects the truth you are sharing.

SBC – Trusting God’s Direction – Acts 8:26

Pastor Tim talks about the importance of God’s direction by walking in Faith with the Lord. He compares this to the story of Phillip who God calls away from a strong ministry in Jerusalem to travel to a remote place in the desert. Even though Phillip was being used to bring many to Christ in Jerusalem, God had other plans for him to help a high government Ethiopian official find a relationship with Christ. Why didn’t God just wait for the Ethiopian to arrive in Jerusalem? Where did Phillip end up after helping the Ethiopian?

Tim finishes with a great story about how God led D.L. Moody to share the Gospel with one man who eventually led many others to a relationship with Christ. Listen in and find out who these people were. God commands us to preach His Gospel to every creature – Mark 16:15, and even promises to go with us – Joshua 1:9. Go share your faith while you still have time…

SBC – Effective Witnessing 101 – Acts 3:11

Pastor Tim continues looking at Peter’s opportune moment following the beggars healing miracle to share the gospel message to many Jewish people, many of whom put Jesus on the cross. Just like Peter, we also need to be ready to speak when God opens doors for others to hear the Gospel (1 Peter 3:15). Tim gives several effective ways Christians can spiritually prepare themselves to be ready to openly share the gospel with or without the Bible. He finishes by explaining Peter’s presentation of the Gospel and why his steps were so affective and convicting to so many that day who put their faith and trust in Christ. How many times have you had the opportunity to share, but forgot to speak?

SBC – The Believer’s Responsibility Towards the Gospel – Romans 10:12

Pastor Tim explains how we should have our feet shod every day to spread the Good News about Christ. Tim gives a wonderful example of two men on a lifeboat shuttling people from a sinking ship to shore. After being safe on shore after only the first trip, the two men decide that maybe God’s plan was for them to survive and not the others, so out of fear of the raging sea, the two men do not return and they let the others drowned with the sinking ship. This is a perfect example of what happens when believers in Christ don’t spread the Good News of the Gospel to others. Don’t be like these two men, but instead be a lifeboat for Christ and proclaim the Gospel to others (Mark 16:15). Didn’t someone take the time to share it with you?

“Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity. Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to preaching and to teaching. Do not neglect your gift, which was given you through a prophetic message when the body of elders laid their hands on you. Be diligent in these matters; give yourself wholly to them, so that everyone may see your progress. Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers.”
