SBC – Is it Fair to Judge Kirk Cameron? – James 4:11

Pastor Tim talks about what’s wrong with judging. Why do people judge one another? Is your judgment based on an opinion, maybe you don’t have all the facts or maybe it’s to harm someone. Judging others without any biblical base goes against God’s Word because it demonstrates great pride as it displaces God’s position. What is God’s position and what does He consider unlawful judgment upon others? God reminds us, that it’s not judging to call Sin, Sin if God’s Word confirms and backs it up. Tim compares this situation with Kirk Cameron regarding his statement about the definition of a biblical marriage which was written in Ephesians 5. Is judging Kirk or anyone who claims truth about what God has instituted in his Word guilty of judgment? Absolutely not, in fact God’s Word warns us of the dangers of disobeying His marriage covenant in many verses in the Bible Leviticus 20:13, Romans 1:27-27, 1 Corinthians 6:9.

Pastor Tim finishes by explaining the importance of understanding God’s law and principles that were written on the hearts of all mankind Romans 2:15 and wraps up with another great story of unlawful judgment.

We should really stop and ask ourselves today, does that person really deserve our judgment. If so, maybe you should remember what God has already said. “Even though I am not with you in person, I am with you in the Spirit. And as though I were there, I have already passed judgment on this man”. 1 Cor 5:3

SBC – Sacrificing Ego – Romans 15:1

Pastor Tim talks about our sacrificial service and how that relates to our character and ego. Paul tells us here in Romans 15:1 that others don’t need criticism, they need instruction. They don’t need neglect, they need attention. It is easy for us to please ourselves in these things and do as we like regardless of what they think, but don’t do that, he says. No, give some attention to what they feel and try to please them, if possible; but at least please them by trying to edify them. Try to instruct and help them to see the reasons why you act the way you do about these things, but don’t cut them off. Don’t treat them as something inferior in the way of Christians, but love them and please them in this sense. The illustration that Paul gives is that Christ himself (though he was Lord) did not please himself, but, rather, lived in such a way as to edify those around him. He didn’t come to live for himself, and proof of it is that he continually met with reproach. The Lord set a side what was His right in order to do what was best for us and we should do the same.

The Bible tells in Romans 5:3-5 that we glory in tribulations. We glory because tribulation produces patience and patience builds character and that’s what God uses to help prune and develop us.

Pastor Dan’s famous character building quote is as illustrated in this cartoon below as he instructs Pastor Tim who is not having a good day on the ladder; “When someone is trying to do something and their frustrated and constantly complaining about something. Dan’s response will be, it’s a good way to build character.” We should think about this quote for minute, because it really does teach us that we need to be patient and reverent before the Lord (Galatians 5:22-23)

“Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” (Hebrews 12:2)

SBC – Choosing our Battles Biblically – Romans 14:10

Pastor Tim explains that it’s wrong to judge anyone outside of the Bible and that we should let God do the judging. Paul’s principle is pretty simple; We must make our decisions about secondary issues in light of the reality of God’s Judgment. Our job is not to judge each other; it is to live in light of the reality of our own judgment by the Lord. The first Judgment will be a Judgment that determines whether we spend eternity in Heaven or in Hell. At this Judgment those people who think they were good enough, or religious enough will discover quickly they have fallen short of God’s standard (Romans 3:23). We will all have to stand before a righteous Judge one day and give an account of how we’ve lived our lives as children of God (Romans 14:12, Romans 2:16). Therefore, it is important for us as Paul’s is saying here, to quick wasting time judging others. Instead, we should work to make sure we are living right before the Lord.

”Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.” (Matthew 7:3-5)

SBC – False Assumptions About Life – Romans 14:7

Pastor Tim talks about how people often say that their life is their own and they can do what they want because the choices they make don’t affect anyone but themselves. Then Tim explains God’s point of view on these false assumptions about life and how they really do affect the choices one makes.

“For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” (Matthew 7:2)

I wanted to post this video of a man who made a choice to stand on a street corner for several years handing out Bible Tracts and asking the question “Are you Saved and if you died today, would you good heaven?” This “one” man spent several years doing God’s will by witnessing to others not realizing the lifes he was affecting until several year later. Are you willing to make this sacrifice?

SBC – Unity Despite Differing Opinions – Romans 14:1

Pastor Tim talks about unity in the Church and judging others when we have no biblical grounds to say when someone is wrong or right.

As believers we need to welcome one another, receive and accept one another, into sweet unity and harmony and fellowship, not on the basis of “constant questionings” about non-essentials things, but on the basis of the glorious truths that God has accepted believers from whom we differ most. God alone, is the final judge; and God himself, with His sovereign grace will see to it that every believer perseveres in faith and stands upright and full of joy before the Judge on the last day  (Hebrews 9:27).

“I will make an everlasting covenant with them that I will not turn away from them, to do them good; and I will put the fear of Me in their hearts so that they will not turn away from Me” (Jeremiah 32:40)
