SBC – Is it Fair to Judge Kirk Cameron? – James 4:11

Pastor Tim talks about what’s wrong with judging. Why do people judge one another? Is your judgment based on an opinion, maybe you don’t have all the facts or maybe it’s to harm someone. Judging others without any biblical base goes against God’s Word because it demonstrates great pride as it displaces God’s position. What is God’s position and what does He consider unlawful judgment upon others? God reminds us, that it’s not judging to call Sin, Sin if God’s Word confirms and backs it up. Tim compares this situation with Kirk Cameron regarding his statement about the definition of a biblical marriage which was written in Ephesians 5. Is judging Kirk or anyone who claims truth about what God has instituted in his Word guilty of judgment? Absolutely not, in fact God’s Word warns us of the dangers of disobeying His marriage covenant in many verses in the Bible Leviticus 20:13, Romans 1:27-27, 1 Corinthians 6:9.

Pastor Tim finishes by explaining the importance of understanding God’s law and principles that were written on the hearts of all mankind Romans 2:15 and wraps up with another great story of unlawful judgment.

We should really stop and ask ourselves today, does that person really deserve our judgment. If so, maybe you should remember what God has already said. “Even though I am not with you in person, I am with you in the Spirit. And as though I were there, I have already passed judgment on this man”. 1 Cor 5:3

SBC – Overcoming the Temptation of Sin – James 1:13

Tim talks about how to deal with and overcome the temptation sin.

Exposing the Temptation
When the temptation is exposed who is responsible?  Why is it human nature to always blame someone else when we already know who is guilty?  Why do people blame God when they commit sin?  As Tim explains these questions, he reminds us that God’s goal is not to temp anyone, but for us to avoid temptation 1Cor 10:13.  Just like when a fisherman hides his bait on a hook so the bait will look good to the fish, so does Satan when he dangles the bait in front of you with a hidden hook. Does this sound familiar with Eve? So how do we deal with sin before it turns into action?

Expressing Gratitude
We should remember that everything good comes from God. God has a perfect gift for everyone and we need thank him for these Gifts. What if fail to acknowledge God for these Gifts?

Exemplifying Christ
Just like a farmer, he puts out his best fruit to draw in buyers to the local farmers market. This is an example of what  God does when he saves us. We are to be His first and best fruit. He uses believers as a presentation to the world to draw others into Truth and Salvation Eph 2:10.

So who will answer your door the next time temptation comes knocking?

“And remember, when someone wants to do wrong it is never God who is tempting him, for God never wants to do wrong and never tempts anyone else to do it. Temptation is the pull of man’s own evil thoughts and wishes.” James 1:13-14

SBC – Dealing with Doctrinal Differences – Acts 15:1

Pastor Tim talks about how to deal with doctrinal differences when we are confronted with false teachers like Harold Camping or Rob Bell who make non doctrinal predictions that are not of God and His Word. Why do people continually follow false teachers like this?

Tim compares the doctrinal differences in today’s society with an issue which challenged the Christian church soon after its inception and would continue to be debated among believers for years to come. But where did this controversy originate? Why was it such a crucial matter for the early church? How did the apostles deal with this challenge to the gospel of Jesus Christ, and what were the repercussions of their decision?

  • Is a sinner saved by the sheer grace of God in and through Christ crucified, when he or she simply believes?
  • Has Jesus Christ by his death and resurrection done everything necessary for salvation?
  • Or are we saved partly through the grace of Christ and partly through our own good works and religious performance?
  • Is justification sola fide, ‘by faith alone’, or through a mixture of faith and Works, grace and law, Jesus and Moses?

The question of what place the Law plays in the lives of Gentile believers is apt to arise even in today’s society. The testimony and ministry of many churches has been shipwrecked as its leaders fell prey to doctrinal differences and human pride which would justify itself by the works of the Law instead of depending fully on Christ and glorifying Him as the Author of salvation.

Listen in as Tim answers these important questions about works of the law versus just simple grace.

“But I fear, lest somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, so your minds may be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.” 2 Cor 11:3

SBC – State of Grace – Romans 5:1

Pastor Tim introduces Pastor Les Loftquist a longtime friend as the guest Speaker for Southland Bible. Pastor Les shares his testimony and life story about growing up in a family without any religious background, but later finds peace and faith in God through the example of other Christians and Romans 5:1-11. If you are searching for Peace in God today, you will be comforted by hearing this message.

We should remember. That the man who believes in the gospel is given the grounds to believe that what was between himself and God has been effectively dealt with by Jesus Christ. The cross is the answer to the inner witness of true moral guilt. As the inspired song writer testified;

(AND CAN IT BE THAT I SHOULD GAIN  – Charles Wesley, 1738)

No condemnation now I dread;
Jesus, and all in Him, is mine;
Alive in Him, my living Head,
And clothed in righteousness divine,
Bold I approach th’eternal throne,
And claim the crown, through Christ my own,
Bold I approach th’eternal throne,
And claim the crown, through Christ my own.

SBC – Dealing with Sin in the Church – Acts 5:12-16

Pastor Tim talks about what Luke reveals in the early church’s pattern of evangelism and the effects of dealing with and uncovering sin that God exposes within the Church that can rob the Church of the integrity it should expect from its Church body.  How should churches handle and purge sin in their church that Paul reminds us of in 1 Tim 5:20 and 1 Cor 5:6-7? When should church discipline be made public?  Tim discusses all these important questions and compares the healing power of the apostles to others who claim to have healing powers. Do they really exist?

SBC – Protecting God’s Work – Romans 16:17-18

Pastor Tim explains that we are to protect God’s work. Paul explains this is in Romans 16:17-18 where we are to Mark them or keep a weary eye on people in the church who are there to do evil.

Paul tells us there are two ways in which believers may protect themselves against false teachers.  The first way is by SEPARATION (Romans 16:17) and the second way is by PENETRATION (Romans 16:18).

SBC – Remember Me – Romans 16:1-15

Pastor Tim explains that God wants us to be remembered for the things we did for Him and our testimony.

Something to remember today. When it comes to laboring faithfully for the Master, there is neither male or female in Christ. We are “heirs together of the grace of life” (1 Peter 3:7) and all serve the same God.

SBC – Paul’s Pattern of Purpose – Romans 15:16

Pastor Tim talks about Paul’s Pattern of Purpose and how God used him to authenticate the message of Christ to the non-Jewish World. Just like Paul, God also has a purpose for each of us. Tim gives us 3 good points in this message that we should think about today; 1) What is your Purpose and function in Life and why are you here? 2) What has God been doing in your Life to accomplish that Purpose? 3) What are your plans for the future? God looks at each of us as a fine-tuned instrument. Tuning us requires certain experiences that will stretch our faith, our boundaries, and our very life. Listen as Tim explains more about the Purpose Paul is writing about here and why we need to stay in tune and walking with Him in order for God to use us to fulfill His ultimate plan and purpose for our life.

“Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms. If anyone speaks, he should do it as one speaking the very words of God. If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.” (1Peter 4:10-11)

SBC – Acceptance without Compromise – Romans 15:7-13

Pastor Tim talks about the customs in Churches that have caused division and chaos over the years among Gentiles and Jews. We as believers need to except and embrace each other and receive others like Christ once received us. Paul tells us here in (Romans 15:7-13) that this is the final call for unity among the weak and strong in order to rejoice together and have abounding hope or volcanic hope as Tim calls it (Titus 1:2) in the purpose God has given each of us. If its perseverance or custom who cares as long as we believe in Jesus Christ…

“Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.” (Matthew 7:1-5)
