SBC – Importance of Knowing God’s Will – Joshua 6:1

Pastor Tim talk’s about Joshua and how knowing and obeying God’s will lead to the fall of Jericho. Tim gives a wonderful example of this by his calling to plant a Bible Church in St. George, UT 25yrs ago which has over the years led many people to the saving grace of Jesus Christ. Just like Joshua’s faithful march, when we follow the will of God and His calling for us we too will see the beauty of His continued progress over time. Is God putting something on your heart today?

“We the unwilling, led by the unqualified, are doing the impossible, for the ungrateful.” But Jesus said, “For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord, plans to prosper, not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future. ” Jeremiah 29:11

SBC – The Consistant Christian – Hebrews 13:5

Pastor Tim discusses the differences between the Thermometer and a Thermostat Christian.  Are you a Thermometer (circumstantially led, up and down in faith, sometimes pleasing or angry w/ God, conformer to groups) or are you a Thermostat (influencer of your surroundings, constant in trusting God) Christian?

So what type of believer are you today? Do you influence your surroundings? Or, are you influenced by your surroundings?

This all leds into today message in Hebrews regarding the peace of contentment and the dangers of covetousness. Tim gives some great examples on how we can be cured from the sin of covetousness and be more content with God’s plan and purpose for our own lives.

“So my people come pretending to be sincere and sit before you. They listen to your words, but they have no intention of doing what you say. Their mouths are full of lustful words, and their hearts seek only after money” Ezekiel 33:31.

SBC – Evidence of Love – Hebrews 13:1

Pastor Tim talks about what love really looks like in the sight of God. Sometimes love is a lot easier to say then it is to really live and to express. Tim looks at some of the misconceptions of love within Christians and why we need to use love and kindness to work through the struggles within our families, but also within the family of God’s kingdom. Just like God’s love for us is found in Romans 5:8, God’s greatest commandment for us is in Gal 5:14-16 where God commands us to let brotherly love continue, have love for strangers and love towards the suffering.

Do you find this happening in your Church?

”For the whole law of the 10 commandments can be summed up in this one command: Love your neighbor as yourself. But if you are always biting and devouring one another, watch out! Beware of destroying one another. So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves” Gal 5:14-16

SBC – Benefitting from God’s Discipline – Hebrews 12:11

Pastor Tim explains that we can choose to benefit from God’s discipline or we can run from God and be miserable. Discipline is like working out at the gym, but more than that it brings us back in fellowship. But we also need to be right with God’s people again. When we fell away from God there were probably people who tried to steer us back and we alienated them. We must be willing to apologize or make things right with Christians again.

“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,  so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work”  2 Timothy 3:16-17.

SBC – Understanding God’s Discipline – Hebrews 12:5

Pastor Tim talks about the importance of discipline for children as parents and how it relates to God’s discipline for His children. If parents discipline their children in the way God disciplines His children which is always for the right reasons, always out of love and corrective in nature, we find not only does it draw us closer to them in our relationship, but it shapes them to be more like Christ would want them to be. So, why is it important for parents to discipline children at a young age? Will kids dislike their parents more if they discipline them or will they love them more? Why does God only discipline His Children? Who are God’s Children anyway and how can I become one? Tim answers all these questions and more so we hope you will listen to this important message.

Those who spare the rod of discipline hate their children. Those who love their children care enough to discipline them. Proverbs 13:24

SBC – The Christian Race – Hebrews 12:1

Pastor Tim talks about the minute we except Christ as savior we enter into a heavenly race. The bible tells us there’s no other way to get to heaven but by running this race. Tim explains by nature, we are distant from the goal; and, if we would have heaven, we must run for it. There is a saying that a man can no more get to heaven who does not run this race—than one can get to his journey’s end who never sets a step in the way 2 Peter 1:10,11. Therefore, if you are to run this heavenly race successfully you must take heed of those things which will hinder and impede you in your race Proverbs 12:27 and throw off all weights of sin in the world that drag you down Hebrews 12:1, Psalm 38:4, 2 Timothy 4:10, 1 John 2:15 if you intend to lay hold on the crown. Are you running this race yet? If so, do you have things that impede your race and walk with God today?

“Don’t you know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize!” 1 Corinthians 9:24

SBC – Obedience Takes Faith – Hebrews 11:8

Pastor Tim talks about Abraham’s faithfulness in serving God and how it led to the most rewarding gift of all, his son Isaac. Have you ever said, why me, when God has put something on your heart to do?  Tim explains that sometimes as Christians we find ourselves making up excuses in our minds because maybe we’re too busy or scared to do what the Lord has asked of us. Just like Abraham, we too need to be faithful in our minds to God and be obedient to His Word and do the things that God is calling us to do in order to receive the blessings and rewards He has waiting for us.

I believe Hebrews records the very thought of Abraham’s faith – “Here we have no lasting city.” Everything breaks. Everything ages, spoils, rusts. Only God remains unchanged and glorious. Hebrews 13:14

SBC – What is Faith – Hebrews 11:1

Pastor Tim talks about when we have faith in humans we find sin and mistakes, but faith in God is having the kind of trust and confidence in Christ that leads us to commit our whole life to Him as Savior. Many of us see faith itself as if it were something you had to do, earn or learn in order for God to love you and save you, but as Tim explains we can’t have a right faith by anything we do, but only what is given to us by the Holy Spirit through the Word of God, who then lights up and directs our senses and our reasoning.

Faith trusts God to forgive us. Faith trusts God to make us holy. Faith trusts God to make us effective. Faith trusts God to never abandon us.

“Have faith in God, Jesus answered” Mark 11:22. Because “If you can? said Jesus. Everything is possible for him who believes” Mark 9:23.

SBC – Priviledge of Knowing Christ – Hebrews 10:19

Pastor Tim talks about the privileges of Fellowship and Salvation through Christ. He explains that we have many privileges here on earth that requires someone or type of membership to gain access to it. But the greatest privilege of all is knowing Christ as Savior since through Christ alone (John 14:6) we gain access to God and to Everlasting Life. Unlike worldly privileges that are temporary, access to God through Christ is free to anyone who calls upon the name of the Lord. Which privilege will you choose today?

“That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved” Romans 10:9.

SBC – Basis of a Christians Confidence – Hebrews 6:10

Pastor Tim talks about how we need to lean on Christ with our burdens because when we lean on the things of this World we will always be disappointed and never satisfied. When we walk with God in our faithfulness, there will be many rewards in our lives and God will never forget our faithfulness to Him. Tim finishes with a wonderful analogy, that when we except Christ as Savior, God gives us a life of hope and raises the anchor that once kept us from moving forward in life. When we die that same anchor that once held us captive to our sin will be pulled up to heaven. Who do you lean on and is your anchor still down and holding you back today from God’s perfect plan and purpose for your life?

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding” Proverb 3:5.
