SBC – A Faith that Pleases God – James 1:5

Pastor John talks about a faith that honors God. James’ letter tells us that we are to encourage those who are facing trials because God uses these trials large and small to test their trust in God. As illustrated in the cartoon below Pastor John explains some of the trials and weaknesses in his earlier life that not only caused mistrust with his father and friends, but also dishonored God. Why is it that God wants to show us our weaknesses by these trials we face?

God wants us to have total confidence in Him because He knows without faith it’s hard to walk in God’s direction and turn to Him when we face struggles in this life. James reminds his readers in verse 1 that we can trust that our trials will add up to joy because as we count on God through them our confidence in Him is strengthened and God will bring us to completion through them (Phil 1:6). This is accomplished by taking our eyes off ourselves and putting them upon God. By doing this will we see God’s purpose and direction in our lives.

Pastor John concludes by reminding us about the decisions we make when confronted with struggles. When we make decisions on our own we will always question whether it was the right decision or not. Have you ever wondered this? But when we hand it over to God He always helps us make the right decision. God wants a heart that says “God, I will trust you no matter what”. Mat 6:24 reminds us that we cannot be double minded in our decision making otherwise we are severing two masters…

Do you trust Him with everything in your life today?

“Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.” Eph 3:20
