SBC – Focus on the Family – Pt17

Pastor Tim talks about how Children always try to please their parents. What happens if parents take their children down a path that is not of the Lord?

Tim continues discussing Samuel’s parents Elkanah and Hannah. Just like before with previous generations, we see Polygamy and the problems that occur from it as the evil jealousy continues here with Elkanah and his 2 wives Hannah and Peninnah.  Again, we should remember that polygamy was never commanded of God nor did God tolerate it and we see this because of the continual sin that occurred because of it, just like in other Old Testament families. Why did Elkanah favor his wife Hannah over Peninnah, like at the feast where he gives Hannah the 16oz prime rib and Penninah the 8oz serving? Why did Peninnah try to make Hannah’s life miserable? When Hannah prayed to God, what did she promise Him if He would provide her a son?  After Hannah gave birth to Samuel, did she keep her promise with God and did Elkanah support it? Tim, discusses all these important topics with Samuel’s parents.

Tim, finishes up the series on families of the Bible by talking about the importance of raising Godly offspring and passing on godly values from generation to generation since children are the greatest tool for evangelism. Parents have a crucial role in leaving a godly legacy for future generations. It’s at home that children see manhood and womanhood modeled, moral values taught and placed into the hearts of their children and the reality of a relationship with Jesus Christ modeled.

SBC – Focus on the Family – Pt16

Pastor Tim talks about Saul and his decision to do his own will versus the will of God. Therefore God is determined to find a new King, someone that has the heart of a King and not the looks of a King. Tim talks about the importance of Character that led to Samuel  to choosing the younger son David as King. He explains since the outside is always subject to change, we should always look at the character that’s inside since that’s what reflects a person’s true beauty.

Tim also looks at Samuel’s parents Elkanah and Hannah and talks about what we as parents should hope for in our Children like with Hannah and her son Samuel. He compares some wealthy people like John Ringling versus Anthony T. Rossi. Both blessed with wealth, but with different desires to use their wealth, one to glorify the world and one to glorify God. Listen in as Tim explains this wonderful story and why it’s important to honor God with all we have in this temporary home.

SBC – Focus on the Family – Pt15

Pastor Tim talks about Caleb and his courage that is displayed following his return from a spy mission from the Promised Land at 85yrs old.  Tim explains because of Caleb’s great example of courage and his ability to display a “different spirit” before God, that we too should take courage and become stronger in doing the Lord’s will in our own lives Mat 7:21, Mat 10:37.

Tim also looks at the Sheppard David and the princely family of his tribe, which had given Israel princes and leaders. Tim explains that David was given an important job to protect the sheep that his family depended on. What were the benefits of David’s responsibly as a Sheppard that we as parents can learn from in order to help our Children? Psalm 78:72

SBC – Focus on the Family – Pt14

Pastor Tim talks about the patterns of sin in the families of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob that were never dealt with and as a result, the same sin kept repeating itself down generations. This included Polygamy, Favoritism and Deception. Tim gives some examples of how as parents we can break these patterns we see that are destroying families today. After seeing a lot of problems because of sin in the families of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, Tim turns to a good family of Amram and Jochebed and describes the miracle story of Moses in how God allowed him to be raised under Egyptian ruling to later become the deliverer of Israel. It’s interesting how God always chooses a deliverer in the form of a baby. As always, God’s masterful plan is perfect.

What happen to this marriage that God arranged and why would Esau sell his birth right to Jacob over a bowl of soup?

Tim also talks again about the dangers of polygamy that occurred with Esau and Jacob and how this sin keeps coming back from previous generations. Has this sin carried on into our generation today? What happened when Esau took Ishmael’s daughter as another wife? What was the Battle of the Brides between Jacob’s first wife Leah and Rachel? What was the point of this marriage contest anyway and how did this affect the children of Leah and all the Hand Maidens? How did Jacob really feel about this contest with his multiple wives? What wife was God’s will to actually pass the godly line through? Tim answers all these questions and more as he continues to study the families of the Bible.

Did Rebekah and Isaac have a perfect marriage since it was of God? Did Isaac sin when he chose Esau over Jacob for the blessing? Did Rebekah sin when she attempted to fool Isaac about Jacob being Esau? What happens if we pick favorites in our family, does it cause conflict between spouses? Tim talks in detail about this and Isaac’s relationship with Rebekah and what went wrong and why. SBC – Focus on the Family – Pt10

Pastor Tim continues his discussion about Abraham’s family and his search for a godly wife for Isaac. Why didn’t Abraham let Isaac go with the servant to find a wife? Even though Isaac’s marriage was God’s choice, was it a perfect marriage?  Pastor Tim explains these questions and also talks about what godly women usually look for in a godly man when dating to marry and vice versa. This is a very important message for teens with respect to biblical dating.

What are the dangers of loving material goods? Is all sin considered the same? Whose cries did God hear from the city of Sodom? What were the sins that caused God to destroy Sodom and Gomorra; does this sin still affect our World today? SBC – Focus on the Family – Pt8

Pastor Tim continues to look at Abraham’s family and the deviations Abraham took that were not God’s will. Was this dangerous for him to do? Why would Abraham lie about Saria being his wife? Why is plural marriage dangerous like with Abraham and Hagar and all others in the Old Testament, what were the replications from plural marriage in which God has never approved, nor made lawful? Who were the descendants of Hagar’s son Ishmael? As a father, should Abraham have said no to Saria’s plan, why did they plot this plan anyway? Why did God wait so long to give Saria a son in the first place? Did Abraham have faith that God would save his son Isaac before the sacrifice Hebrews 11:17-18? Why was it such a long journey (3 days) to the alter that God chose for Abraham’s son? Tim explains all these important questions about Abraham’s family and why God sometimes to chooses to wait long periods of time before He blesses others.
